Almost a hundred filmmakers and producers attended the cocktail party organized by Turismo de Portugal and the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual during the Cannes Film Festival in France to promote the new national monitoring and tax credit program for films shot in the country. .
One of the speakers at the Portuguese event was Saïd Ben Saïd, producer of films such as "The God of Carnage", "Aquarius" and, more recently, "Frankie", shot in Portugal under this scheme and in competition this year in Cannes. The producer described the experience in Portugal as "exceptional".
Created in 2018, the Tourism, Cinema and Audiovisual Support Fund has an annual allocation of 12 million euros and the application for the fund implies that a minimum investment of 500 thousand euros is made in the national territory, in the case of films shot in Portugal. , and 250 thousand euros, in the case of production work.
This fund allows reimbursement of up to 30% of project expenses within a period of about 20 days, subject to certain criteria. "On the one hand, we value the films that show Portugal and recognize that they are filmed in Portugal, but also value the heritage and use Portuguese technical teams, leaving the greatest possible value in Portugal. of the film and the number of markets it will reach, "said the Secretary of State.
To reinforce this program, the Government announced on Friday the creation of the Portugal Film Commission (PFC), which aims to promote the country as a filming destination and streamline the authorization processes of foreign film productions in the national territory. The Film Commission was also presented in Cannes.
