Last year, Publicis Groupe refused to participate in the festival and various events. This was due to the decision to redirect budgets to develop their own artificial intelligence platform - Marcel. It was planned that it will bring together 80 thousand employees in 200 directions from 130 different countries. Then the head of WPP Martin Sorrell doubted the feasibility of participating in the festival. He stated that the event had become too “blurred” and went beyond its original mission.
The failure of the media group led to the fact that Ascential, the owner of Cannes Lions, had to completely restructure the festival.
