When is Vienna Blood on TV? Show, draw and watch drama for BBC Two
Sherlock writer Steve Thompson brings us after the Victorian English doctor a new drama adapted from the best-selling Max Liebermann novels that solves some of Austria's most unusual crimes.
The psychological thrill of transport Netflix takes Mindhunter back to Austria in the 1900s, cross it with Sherlock, and you may end up with something like Vienna blood.
Like Mindhunter's FBI Special Envoy Holden Ford, & nbsp; junior doctor Max Liebermann (Matthew Beard) is fascinated by the psychology of murderers and psychopaths; After speaking to the Vienna police inspector Oskar Rheinhardt (Jürgen Maurer), he astonishes everyone by building a "profile" of an unknown killer and thinking about Sigmund Freud's new "science" of psychoanalysis. Perhaps his popularity is not helped by the fact that he also has some Sherlock-style knowledge.
Max is initially upset by Rheinhardt and is skeptical of his talents. Then Max will inevitably win over him as they form an unlikely anti-crime partnership. We say "unlikely", but in fact there are no big surprises in the Vienna blood; for the most part, it's just straight-line (and reasonably fun) during the crime drama.
The first episode gives the story a reborn storyline: how could a woman be hit with a blow to the chest without a bullet and a gun - and the doors and windows locked from the inside? Max and Rheinhardt's mission to identify and prosecute the killer takes them across the city through rooftops, cemeteries and even a meeting.
One aspect of Viennese blood that sets it apart from the people of the crime drama is the treatment of anti-Semitism. It is 1906 and the Liebermanns are a family of Jewish immigrants to Austria; although the city has a large Jewish population, anti-Semitism - sporadic and intense - is everywhere they turn. It's interesting to see where the writer Steve Thompson goes in as the series continues - and how Max and his socially ambitious father, Mendel, react to the hatred of those around them.
For three full episodes, the English drama is followed by Max Liebermann (Matthew Beard), a brilliant young English doctor studying under the guidance of renowned psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud.
According to the BBC, Max is criminally minded and will follow up with Detective Inspector Oskar Rheinhardt (Jürgen Maurer) from the Vienna Police Department, who is in trouble with the incident. Max's extraordinary perceptual and forensic skills and deep understanding of human behavior and deviation help Oskar solve Vienna's most mysterious cases. "
The series is based on Frank Tallis' Max Liebermann novels and is set in Vienna in the 1900s - "a hot bed of philosophy, science and art, where culture and ideas clash in the city's big cafes and opera houses."
Speaking of the two protagonists, Tallis said: “Through Rheinhardt, Liebermann links police investigations by applying his psychoanalytic knowledge - especially when the suspects are being questioned. Of course, Liebermann's technique is that subconscious processes let their misdeeds betray through "every pore."
